You're met by the community team right at the entrance of Work.Life Borough, based in the breakout area and communal kitchen. There's good breakout space on the first and lower ground floors, with plenty of booths, soft seating and desks, and every floor has its own kitchen and breakout area for the offices there. The Typewriter Building is Work.Life's Borough workspace on Borough High Street, a five-storey block built in 1957 as the headquarters of an office machinery manufacturer. It was designed by Richard Seifert and Wilem Frischman, Seifert's first venture into European modernism, and it takes its current name from that history.
Design and build firm Two led a low-carbon refurbishment for Work.Life, reusing much of the original structure and extending it to around 22,000 sq ft of workspace. The ground floor keeps original staircases and balustrades, and a skylit winter garden built around a central tree runs through the upper floors.
Private offices here run from around 2 desks up to a full floor of 70-plus, and Work.Life can combine adjoining offices for bigger teams. Each office is on an all-inclusive monthly membership covering business rates, daily cleaning, furniture and 24/7 access.
Shared spaces include the winter garden, a fully equipped kitchen and tea point on every floor, bookable meeting rooms up to a full boardroom, showers, bike storage, phone booths and a prayer room. The building is also dog friendly.
